About Andy

With over 34 years of extensive legal and judicial experience, Andy is uniquely positioned to serve as State Court Judge. As the only candidate with experience in criminal and civil cases on every level, Andy has the track record to prove his character as a knowledgeable judge who presides with integrity and demonstrates a strong understanding of the law.

Andy Maddox was raised in Georgia and graduated from Calhoun High School where he was student body president and state National Honors Society president. Following in the footsteps of his parents and siblings, Andy attended Baylor University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.

After doing some real estate work in Texas, Andy entered law school at Campbell University in 1986. During this time, he met his wife Tina and they were married just before graduation, moving to Gainesville, GA in 1989.

Working in litigation at Whelchel, Dunlap & Gignilliat LLP in Hall County focused on business law and criminal cases, Andy met Nathan Deal while teaching Sunday School class for his daughter and son and ultimately worked on the future Governor’s congressional campaign. In 1997, Andy started his own legal practice focused on real estate law as well as taking on civil and criminal cases. He grew this practice to include four lawyers and two locations in Hall and Dawson counties.

Andy and Tina raised their three sons Will, Jake and Luke in Gainesville and all three were deeply involved in local and travel sports teams. Andy coached each one of their little league sports and became rather successful coaching as their sons became significant athletes. In 2002, Andy became head coach of the Varsity Baseball team at Riverside Academy, serving on the senior staff for Character Education. During his tenure at Riverside, the baseball team won regionals three years and earned a state championship.

In 2006, Andy returned to practicing law and became a Senior Assistant Public Defender, ultimately moving into the role of part-time Hall County Magistrate Court judge in 2022 where he continues to serve as a senior judge across the Hall County court system. He has been assigned over 100 times by the Superior and State Court Judges to preside in Superior, State, and Juvenile Court in both Hall and Dawson County since 2022.

Outside of the courtroom, family remains Andy’s top priority and he loves staying involved in church, music and sports. Andy serves as a Deacon and sings in the choir at First Baptist Church where his family has been actively involved since moving to Gainesville over 30 years ago. He has served in multiple roles in the community, has coached a number of boys sports, is a graduate of Leadership Hall County and former member of the Jaycees as well as being involved in community theater.
